Harriston Ontario Visited

by Gary McWilliams (aka Festival Nomad)

As you may know, Scoop (Judi) and I love to visit and explore Ontario communities!

Quite often the smaller rural communities are the most interesting.

They seem to have a lot more community spirit and pride.

Take Harriston, for example.

We had traveled through it a few times, but never appreciated really its uniqueness.

That is until we parked our car and got out to explore Harriston’s downtown area.

We were very glad that we did!

The first thing I noticed, were the large “ice cream cones” that  dotted the sidewalks!

We later found out that this was a “Cool Cones” art exhibit.

They all added to the charm of the downtown.

As we walked along the sidewalks, we were able to take a closer look at the Harriston’s various stores.

You could see the pride that the store owners had in their shops.

Scoop, being a life-long “crafter“, had to explore each shop!

No problem for me, there were lots of other things to discover.

I wander the downtown sidewalks, while Judi examined the “treasures” of the shops she explored.

With “explorations” complete, we continued to enjoy Harriston and all that the downtown offered.

Like I said at the beginning of this article, rural communities can be very “interesting“, and Harriston certainly fulfilled that thought!

The next time you and your family want to have a “great” outing, visit one of the many small Ontario communities. You’ll be amazed at the you will find!

Over the years, Scoop and I have “discovered” and “explore” hundreds.
